EXERCISE 1: A NOVICE RECALL

Start with your dog sat or laying down on your left side, then ask him to wait and walk in a straight line for at least 8 paces, halt then face your dog. When instructed call your dog to you into the present position, then finish your dog.


EXERCISE 2: HEELWORK

Your dog should walk close to your left leg in a consistent position for both a full left-hand circle, and a full right-hand circle. 

This exercise will be carried out off lead.


EXERCISE 3: TARGET HAND TOUCH

Start with your dog sat in front of you. Using your hands as targets hold them out to the side and ask your dog to touch them alternately. He should move towards each hand and touch them with his nose.


EXERCISE 4: DOWN WITH DURATION

Leave your dog in the down position, move 8 paces away from him for at least one minute and then return back to him. Immediately move 8 paces away from him again, jump up and down on the spot, turn around 360 degrees and then return back to your dog. Give a release cue to end the exercise.

Your dog should not move from the down position until he is given a release cue.


EXERCISE 5: A SENDAWAY

Start with your dog sat or laying on your left side. When given the cue your dog should run in a straight line to a marked area and lay down, he should remain settled in the down position until you return to him.


EXERCISE 6: DISTANCE CONTROL

Leave your dog in a sit position, walk four paces away and then turn and face your dog. Ask your dog to change positions four times. The positions of sit, down and stand can be given in any order.

Your dog should not move more than his own body length in any direction.


EXERCISE 7: RETRIEVE

Start with your dog sat or laying on your left side. Throw an article of your choice at least 6 ft in front of you. When given a cue you dog should go and pick up the article and bring it back to the present position, your dog should hold the article until you ask him to give it to you to end the exercise.


EXERCISE 8: TRICK OF YOUR CHOICE FROM EITHER-

1- A spin in both directions    2- A figure of eight leg weave     3- Take a bow
